Say 'Hello' to some inspiring athletes, who are rising above their disability, and taking the sport of lawn bowls by storm.
Competitors from across the country are in Port Macquarie for this year’s Australian Blind Bowlers National Championships.
The Australian Blind Bowlers Association (ABBA):
The Australian Blind Bowlers Association (ABBA) is the National peak body for the administration of the Sport of Lawn Bowls for Blind & Vision Impaired Bowlers
The purposes of the Association are: Advance, encourage, promote, and control lawn bowls activities for blind and vision impaired bowlers.
* To liaise and co-operate with associations of like interest in Australia and overseas to promote, manage and control interstate and international lawn bowls games.
* To establish liaison with other sporting bodies and government authorities.
* To procure or accept sponsorship, gifts, including legacies, donations whether of real or personal property and subject to such conditions, if any, as may be thought fit.
* To provide such assistance and advice to members as may be appropriate.
* To promote an informed public understanding of blindness and visual Impairedness.
ABBA is a not-for-profit organisation which started in the mid 70’s.
They are the peak body for State Associations and have affiliations with Bowls Australia, Blind Sports Australia and the International Blind Bowls Association.
ABBA invites bowlers and their directors to participate in a National Championship which is held in a different state annually.
ABBA relies on donations and grants to keep it’s operations going.
They appreciate any financial assistance to help bowlers and directors, most of whom are on pensions.
