The Church 'Under The Milky Way'
Like its titular galaxy, Under the Milky Way is a song that feels as though it has always existed. The single dropped in 1988, eight years into the life of Sydney new-wave band the Church.

INXS and George Michael were going galactic as Under the Milky Way slid on to the airwaves with a meteor shower of jangly guitars, moody A-minor chords, ebow instrumental interludes and otherworldly lyrics about “something shimmering and white” that “leads you here, despite your destination”.

With its anthemic chorus, “Wish I knew what you were looking for, might have known what you would find,” Under the Milky Way catapulted the Church on to the world stage (the song peaked at No 22 on the US charts) and earned the band single of the year at the 1989 Aria awards

Lyrics:

Sometimes when this place gets kind of empty,

Sound of their breath fades with the light.

I think about the loveless fascination,

Under the milky way tonight.

Lower the curtain down in memphis,

Lower the curtain down all right.

I got no time for private consultation,

Under the milky way tonight.

Wish I knew what you were looking for.

Might have known what you would find.

Wish I knew what you were looking for.

Might have known what you would find.

And its something quite peculiar,

Something thats shimmering and white.

Leads you here despite your destination,

Under the milky way tonight

Wish I knew what you were looking for.

Might have known what you would find.

Wish I knew what you were looking for.

Might have known what you would find.

Under the milky way tonight.

Who else gets chills by listening to this song?

April 7, 2020 : There are some things money just can't buy....I was feeling very sad today because it is my son's birthday and I couldn't spend it with him, or afford to buy him a gift because of being unemployed due to the coronavirus pandemic....I gazed out my window this evening and what a beautiful full moon! WOW it looks so close, but yet still far away....I thought of my son hoping he is enjoying the same beautiful moon on his birthday!

Those thoughts are a gift in themselves. Thoughts of your son.

Your son understands.  Peace and love sister.

I can't stop staring at the moon. It is so bright and close lately. It feels like a sign from God somehow.

Love doesn't cost a damn dime. Love is all we want

It was close.  The closest it will be in 2020.  It was called a pink moon.  Not sure why.  I remember seeing it myself when it had just risen.  It blew me away. Anyway, sorry to hear of your dilemma.  Wish I could wave a magic wand and make it okay, but, I will send good thoughts and a prayer your way.  I truly hope things turn out.....I have a feeling they will.  Hang in there, Kath.......thinking of you and your son.  I'm sure he saw that big moon when you saw it.  You're linked to him you know.

......in more ways than one!

When i hear this song it takes me back to the 80s  I can still see my wife as a young beautiful girl then  Weve traveled the road of life together  for 44 years  It hasnt been  easy but  I still have her and i still love her !

Mine and my very first girlfriends song. Still picture her dancing to this in her bedroom in 1987. Hope she has lived a wonderful and good life since then.
