Local sports clubs share in $4m State Government funding
Sport and recreation clubs across the Port Macquarie have been successful in securing funding from the NSW Government for new equipment, facilities and programs through the Local Sport Grants Program

Ten sport and recreation clubs will each receive grants of up to $20,000 in the latest round of funding which sees $4.2 million awarded to sports and recreation clubs across the state.

Member for Port Macquarie, Leslie Williams said the grants would be used to increase participation, upgrade facilities and equipment and help train coaches and volunteers.

“Sport is a vital part of our community and these grants will provide essential funds to our local clubs to help increase participation in sport and active recreation and contribute to improved social, health and cultural outcomes.

“Just this past weekend I welcomed participants from across the country to the 2018 Port Macquarie-Maroro Outrigger Canoe Club National Titles. The event was supported with a $5,000 Local Sports Grant,” Mrs Williams said.

Local projects funded include:

$5,000 Camden Haven Physical Culture Club

$1,018 Flamin’ Dragons Port Macquarie

$5,000 Hastings River Junior Cricket Club

$9,400 Hastings Valley Motor Cycle Club

$2,307 Kendall Tennis Club

$10,000 Port Macquarie Rowing Club

$5,631 Port Macquarie Rugby Union Club

$5,000 Port Macquarie Swimming Club

$5,000 Queens Lake Sailing Club

Minister for Sport, Stuart Ayres congratulated the grant recipients and said the NSW Government was proud to support a program which improved community health and encouraged participation in sport and recreation.

“Tackling childhood obesity and increasing regular and on-going participation in sport and active recreation for people of all ages is a NSW Government priority,” Mr Ayres said.

“These funds will help encourage people in the Port Macquarie electorate, regardless of their age or ability, to get involved in sport and active recreation.”
