Port Macquarie : Homelessness Week 2022 happening now
Hundreds of people throughout the Hastings are sleeping rough every single night. While homelessness week is underway, there are services available to assist in alleviating some of these pressures.

What is Homelessness Week?

In Australia there are over 116,000 people experiencing homelessness on any given night.

Homelessness Week aims to raise awareness of the impact of homelessness on Australia via national and local community events, including providing information on the importance of housing as a solution and educating communities on how they can make a difference.

How do I get involved?

You can help raise awareness by sharing your stories, thoughts, ideas and concerns about homelessness and housing on social media.

Be sure to include the hashtag #HW2022 and follow Homelessness Australia on Twitter.


Port Macquarie Youth, Community & Outreach Centre:

Been an awesome week so far with so many services coming together for homelessness week based here at the youth hub.

Specialist Youth Homelessness Service:

Welcome to YP SPACE MNC (YPS).

YPS is a specialist Youth Homelessness Service and our agency works in the Port Macquarie/ Hastings and Kempsey/ Macleay LGAs of the Mid North Coast of NSW.

YPS provide support and accommodation to children & young people aged 12 to 25 years across our target locations.

YPS has been in operation for over 33 years & during this time has supported thousands of children and young people to reach their goals & achieve fantastic outcomes.

The three leading causes of child/ youth homelessness in our area are Domestic & Family Violence, family breakdown & abuse.

YPS provides services to children/young people aged between 12 to 25 years who are experiencing homelessness or are at risk of homelessness in the Port Macquarie/ Hastings and Kempsey/ Macleay LGAs

Who We Help:

The different service and program types YPS implement have age eligibility criteria due to funding requirements.

Below is a breakdown of the service types & target groups for each service type.

* 24/7 Supported Crisis Accommodation: Kempsey & Port Macquarie

24/7 Crisis accommodation is available for children/young people aged 13 to 17 years.

YPS can not provide crisis accommodation to children 12 years or under as this age group require a child protection response from the Department of Family & Community Services.

* Early Intervention, Prevention & Outreach Case Management Services: Kempsey & Port Macquarie

Early intervention, prevention and Outreach services are available for children/young people aged 16 to 25 years.

* Homeless Youth Assistance Program (HYAP): Kempsey & Port Macquarie

HYAP services are available for children/young people aged between 12 to 15 years. Crisis accommodation is available for HYAP children/young people between 13 to 15 years.

* Transitional Housing: Kempsey & Port Macquarie

To be eligible for YPS Transitional Housing a young person needs to meet the following criteria (which we can help you with): Aged 16 to 25, Case Managed by YPS, On an income- either Centrelink or employment, Willing & able to understand & agree to being a responsible tenant & work with us around your obligations.
