News Story Summary:
How FoodBank is responding to the NSW floods:
We didn’t think our Aussie spirit would be tested so soon after the devastating Black Summer bushfires and a year of the COVID pandemic. If you needed evidence that Aussies are strong, resilient and have a strong community spirit, look no further than the many communities on the NSW Mid-North Coast, Western Sydney, Western NSW as they battle extreme flooding.
We want to thank the tireless volunteers who continue to work day and night to help residents in affected areas, including the SES and all the crews out and about assisting communities at the moment.
Foodbank NSW & ACT is working closely with Resilience NSW and our charity partners to provide assistance to flood affected areas in a safe manner.
We’re getting many enquiries about how you can best help us in this time. The most important thing right now is for everyone to stay safe, and follow all instructions of the SES. This includes limiting leaving your house, and staying off the roads as much as possible.
As a result we currently aren’t able to accept any new volunteers or food donations. Watch this space as we will change our advice if it is once again safe and further help is needed.
Right now the best way you can help us get food and water to those in flood areas is by making a financial donation. We will be urgently packing our crisis hampers and getting them to the front line as quickly as we can, and financial donations means we can source food to make these. For every $1 donated we can provide $6 worth of food. You can donate here: foodbankna.org/helpfloods
