The Models 'I Hear Motion'
PortMac.News's Editor's Pick : From over 200 tracks in our 'Clip-O-The-Week' archive I have chosen 'The Models' epic 1983 track 'I Hear Motion' as my pick for 2023 - At 40 it still rocks like new!
'I Hear Motion' featuring the late great James Freud on bass playing one of the funkiest bass lines every, was the first single from The Models 'The Pleasure of Your Company' album & the third studio album recorded by the Australian new wave rock band.
'I Hear Motion' was a Top 20 success on the Australian Kent Music Report singles chart, peaking at No. 16 for two weeks, (although it climbed higher in several states and territories, placing at No. 12 on Melbourne's 3XY charts in October 1983).
At the 1983 Countdown Music Awards, the song was nominated for Best Australian Single.
Portions of 'I Hear Motion' were included in the soundtrack of the 1988 movie, Young Einstein.
Keyboard player Andrew Duffield claimed the genesis for writing the song was a unsuccessful attempt at playing Stevie Wonder's "Superstition" on a keyboard.
Whatever, I saw them live in Sydney in the 80's & I can confirm - they rocked!

What a band, and what a genius Sean is. On a deserted island of wonderfulness...Duffield went alright too. I never realised how technically proficient these guys were at the time.

Synth sounds and bass solo are perfect!

The greatest Aussie song of the 80's. What a sound for its time, still sounds amazing today!

All round class act. the legal battles that come later in no way detract from the music. You guys were, and still are, out there.

This is my Neighboirs favourite song - They just don't know it yet

I'm feeling a bowel motion coming on right now. No seriously one of the best Melbourne bands in the early 80s.

Love the sound of this, the little keyboard punctuation that starts at beginning then is joined by the other instruments..and that voice.. . Its all so geniously done!

The Models were my favorite Australian band growing up. At 15 years old we followed them from pub gig to pub gig. We lost interest once Freud got on vocals as they got too commercial. We were underground kids!
