Labor Mundingburra Labor MP Les Walker was knocked unconscious at Townsville's Mad Cow Tavern nightclub after midnight on January 16.

News Story Summary:

It's the way we do it up here ! North Queensland MP Les Walker has been fined and banned from the city's nightclub precinct for his involvement in a fight.

Les was KO'd in the fight & taken to the Townsville University Hospital for treatment.

Mr Walker turned 56 on January 15 and is understood to have been out celebrating his birthday when the incident occurred.

Two men, aged 19 and 21, were issued banning notices from the Townsville Safe Night Precinct at the weekend.

Police have now banned Mr Walker from the precinct for 10 days and issued all three men with public nuisance infringement notices worth $800 each.

MP can't enter large part of city centre

Officers said the notices were for disorderly behaviour in or near a licensed premises.

The ban means Mr Walker can not enter a large part of the CBD, including the nightclub strip, casino and eateries.

No charges have been laid.

Shadow Minister for Integrity in Government Fiona Simpson issued a one-line statement saying:

"I look forward to hearing what Les Walker and the Premier of Queensland have to say, today."

Mr Walker has been contacted for comment.

A spokesperson for Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said she would not be commenting further.

During a press conference on January 19, Ms Palaszczuk was asked if she had a problem with MPs being out late.

"Look everyone needs to act responsibly. Everyone knows my views on that," she said.
