News Story Summary:

There are calls for Byron Bay's nude beach to cover up after a spate of lewd encounters.

Tyagarah Beach was officially made clothing optional 20 years ago after locals petitioned for a legal nude beach, and has been enjoyed by people keen for a skippy dip since then.

Some locals say in the past few years the beach has been taken over by a "minority" who engage in lewd behaviour and should be shut down, while other locals believe the beach can be cleaned up to be enjoyed by everyone.

Erin P Tripadvisor review:

Fun couples experience

Lovely beach, not too crowded on a weekday and the surf wasn’t too rough.

There was a lot of people in all modes of transportation travelling through and across the nude section of the beach. This included motor paragliders zooming low on the beach, people on bikes, people on horses, helicopters, planes and gliders, was more hilarious than uncomfortable.

The parking was a bit confusing, make sure you bring $8 in cash and a pen for the envelope you have to put into the box.

A few creepy people but overall was a great time!

Olivia Hocroft:

Great beach

Great spot, the beach is beautiful and clean.

There is toilet facilities at the entrance avaliable which was unexpected.

There is a dedicated clothing optional area and everyone there was respectful! The locals are super friendly and down to have a chat.

Walt C:

Relaxing beach to bare all

Visits to this quiet stretch of beach north of Byron Bay offer a respectful and safe place to sunbathe with or without your swimsuit.

Used primarily by locals or ‘in the know’ visitors from nearby towns, this beach let’s you unwind in peace, watch dolphins swimming and the occasional parachute jumpers float by.

Midweek it rarely has more than 20 visitors and you’re left alone to stroll, sunbathe or enjoy the sand and sea.
