Forensic tests confirm remains found on two Port Macquarie beaches are those of missing man Mark James.

News Story Summary:

A NSW Police spokesperson confirmed the results of forensic testing on yesterday (October 20th).

"The remains have been identified as that of a 56-year-old man reported missing from Port Macquarie in September," the spokesman said.

"Police believe there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the man's death."

Mr James, 56, was reported missing on September 19th when his car was found abandoned at Tacking Point lighthouse.

Officers from the Mid North Coast Police District commenced a search which lasted six days and included PolAir, Surf Lifesaving NSW, Marine Rescue, NSW Police divers and the State Emergency Service.

Marine Rescue vessel PM30 swept the waters between Port Macquarie and Lake Cathie.

The land search covered an extensive area of bushland and coastline between Watonga Rocks and Shelly Beach.

The human remains were found on September 28th by beach walkers more than a week after Mr James went missing.

Little Bay at Lighthouse Beach and Miners Beach in Port Macquarie were closed to the public while investigations were conducted.

A crime scene was established before the remains were sent away for forensic testing.
