Lamborghini Countach Road Trip (P.1)
Harry decided to go on a road trip through France in his 1987 Lamborghini Countach LP500 Quattrovalvole & drive the Route Napoleon.

When you think about taking a European road trip, you could consider a Honda Civic rent-a-wreck or perhaps you'd prefer something a little more spicy, such as the fabulous V12 mid-engined 200mph+ Lamborghini Countach QV (In Monza red, off course!)?

Totally impractical, the classic mid-engine V12 supercar is wide, low, bad on gas, and hard to see out of, but none of that matters when you red-line that glorious mid-mounted V12.

Countach owner Harry Metcalfe took his car nearly 1000 miles across France for a wildly pretty getaway and smiled all the way (Wouldn't you?}.

In part 1 off this three part journey, Harry pastes Lyon & heads down into the French Alps, and eventually onto some of the best roads in the country.

As you'd expect, traveling long distances in a Countach can be tough.

It's so loud inside the cabin, Metcalfe had to put on earplugs to keep from hurting his eardrums, and cover the gated shifter boot with a piece of cloth to silence the transmission whine.

Plus, all the controls are extra heavy, meaning maneuvering through tight city streets was extremely tiresome.

Fortunatly, luggage space was less of a hassel.

The QV's trunk space behind that massive V12 is actually big enough for a few duffel bags.

And even though the Countach gets just 15 miles per gallon on the highway, it has a big 29-gallon tank, meaning it can go a pretty long distance between fill-ups.

In part two of his trip (Next week on PortMac.News), Harry will work his way through a mountain pass on his way to Switzerland, and encountered a spot of bother along the way.

OK, Key in the ignition, shifter to neutral - fire her up & we're off ....
