What is really happening in the detention centres on Nauru & Manus Island?
Since 2016 Jill Horton has been a Private Practitioner Social Worker counselling and advocating for Refugees from many countries in onshore Australia and offshore detention centres on Manus Island PNG and Nauru.
Her work with refugees includes developing relationships with media, doctors, lawyers, UNHCR, IOM, Amnesty, politicians, Ministries, NGO’s and humanitarians to discuss issues, advocate solutions, and to provide information on behalf of the refugees.
Jill has spent time on Manus Island and in Port Moresby to better understand the situation and conditions.
She is a member of the Mid North Coast Refugee Support group. Dawn Barrington, contemporary singer/songwriter and activist from Denmark WA visited Manus twice to play music and offer her support to refugees. Dawn’s video documenting her visits will be shared.
Jill will be conducting a live conversation with a refugee on Manus, who will speak directly to the group and answer questions offered.

A special event featuring Dawn Barrington, a contemporary folk singer/songwriter and activist from Denmark WA.
Dawn plays songs dedicated to the men confined in detention including one that was written with one of the refugees. There will be opportunities to sing along as an act of solidarity with the refugees. She also offers a range of ways for you to make a difference.Dawn will also talk about offshore refugee processing, focussing on Manus Island and her two visits there to play music and offer support to the refugees.She was deported on the second visit after 10 days.
