Launch of Healthy Towns’ Lake Cathie Community Action Plan
North Coast Primary Health Network (NCPHN) cordially invites community members to attend the launch of the Healthy Towns’ Lake Cathie Community Action Plan on Friday June 21st.

When: When: Friday June 21, 11am to 12.30pm

Where: Lake Cathie Community Hall in Mullaway Avenue

Over the past 12 months, the Healthy Towns program has worked in partnership with six North Coast communities to identify health and wellbeing needs and design local solutions. The communities are Lake Cathie, Casino, Evans Head, South West Rocks, Maclean and Woolgoolga.

After extensive consultation with residents of Lake Cathie, North Coast Primary Health Network is delighted to announce funding of approximately

$215,000 for local projects.  The funding comes from the Australian Government’s Primary Health Network funding and is delivered in partnership with local service providers and community groups. The projects include:

1. Lake Cathie Community Hub. Funding has been provided to transform the Lake Cathie Community Hall into a vibrant community hub and garden. The Community Hub will host a range of program and activities and support community members to access health and wellbeing services.

2. Community Noticeboard. The need for a community noticeboard was first identified in 1993! After many years of waiting, a noticeboard has been funded and will be installed at the Woolworths complex in 2019.

3. Mental Health Resources at Lake Cathie Primary School. Young people's

mental health was identified as a priority concern for the community. Healthy Towns will fund a school garden and mental health program resources to support young people's wellbeing.

4. First Responders Training. Healthy Towns will fund trauma response training for our local volunteer first responders to support them to support our community.

Other funded initiatives will be announced at the Action Plan Launch.

Healthy Towns aims to build individual and community connections and improve access to services for people living in rural communities. Getting involved in the planning of local services and events has positive benefits for health and wellbeing.

Improving service access and coordination helps overcome barriers faced by rural people such as lack of access to transport and poorer access to services.

Healthy Towns has already achieved great outcomes in each community.

More than 3000 people have engaged with the program and many new relationships have been formed. We have funded more than 50 local projects and hosted health and wellbeing events in each town.

NCPHN is pleased that Healthy Towns has received positive engagement from diverse sectors of the community and brought together community members, services and organisations to build new connections and relationships. The program has been successful due to the amazing strengths and enthusiasm of the Lake Cathie community to promote wellbeing.

Our funded projects will ensure that Healthy Towns continues to support strong and connected communities into the future.
