Mainpaper News Story:
The alliance, which currently includes Save Kempsey Airport Action Group (SKAAG) Inc., Kempsey Cinema Action Group and the Crescent Head Residents & Ratepayers Group is seeking intervention from the Minister for Local Government citing lack of transparency, genuine community engagement and due diligence applied by Council following a spate of recent controversial decisions.
“Although each group have specific concerns relating to their own community, we accept that there are different points of view across the whole Shire on individual issues. What the groups have in common is a total lack of confidence in Kempsey Shire Council’s decision-making processes and governance,” said President of SKAAG Inc. Adam Ulrick.
“Council only have themselves to blame for becoming the most complained about Council in NSW in 2018 and they remain at very short odds to retain this title in 2019.” Mr Ulrick said.
The alliance is asking the Minister to issue a Performance Improvement Order and if necessary, implement some form of independent oversight on Council’s deliberations and administrative practices.
“The community has been extremely tolerant of Council’s ongoing lack of regard for their constituents but enough is enough” Mr Ulrick said.
“We invite any other concerned community groups or residents to join the Alliance and we encourage anyone that is concerned about Councils’ performance to sign this petition” he said.
The petition to the NSW Parliament will be available at various locations across the Macleay Valley.
