Do we really need a voice activated toilet? Kitchen and bath products-maker Kohler thinks so, as well as a faucet, bathroom mirror and the list of voice activated devices that is even weirder!

Kohler Alexa Voice Activated Loo? Just Say The Word!
Do we really need a voice activated toilet? Kitchen and bath products-maker Kohler thinks so, as well as a faucet, bathroom mirror and the list of voice activated devices that is even weirder!

Technology fads often run hot then fizzle, and it's tempting to think that the intelligent Wi-Fi-connected Kohler commode will fall into the realm of cool-but-little-used items that include smart forks and see-through washing machines.

But in this race for the crown jewel of smart home control, Kohler’s toilet might just take the throne. You can ask it to heat up the seat, lift the lid, play your favorite tunes, and of course, flush. “Our new loo delivers hands-free control, personalized cleansing functionality,” reads the release, “that let users fine-tune every aspect of their experience to their exact preferences.”

Now before you make it the butt of new gadget jokes, just imagine how great it would be to end the age-old argument between men and women everywhere to put the seat down. And talk about ending germaphobes'  complaints forever.

It's a germophobes dream come true: Never having to touch a toilet handle again. With the latest toilet from Kohler, you can simply ask it to "flush" and it will comply. If you forget, it will flush itself anyway. The toilet also lets you choose the color of ambient lighting and the music from its speakers. At night, the lid automatically opens as you approach and the seat warmer activates. It flushes and closes the lid as you leave.

It's part of the fixture maker's Kohler Konnect smart bathroom system, being introduced at this years Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.

Voice services and connected devices have become integrated into every facet of the home — with the notable exception of the bathroom, until now,”  Kohler CEO David Kohler said in a statement.

But the intelligent toilet won't come cheap, priced from $5,625 to $7,825. Besides voice commands, consumers can interact with Kohler Konnect with hands-free motion control and personalized presets managed through a new application for iPhones and Android devices. The toilet is just the start when it comes to voice command. Users can adjust the lighting in the bathroom mirror, turn on the shower and fill a bathtub to a desired depth and temperature by voice.
