The Midnight 'The Comeback Kid'
This video is euphoric, the melody is mesmerizing. Reminds me of 4th of July, 1988. Riding my BMX with great friends, the laughter, the innocence, living life without worries, Emotional, you got me !!
The Midnight is an American synthwave band, originating from Los Angeles, CA, composed of producer Tim McEwan and vocalist/guitarist Tyler Lyle.
Prior to forming The Midnight, Tyler Lyle and Tim McEwan were both established musicians. Lyle was an indie-folk singer-songwriter based in the state of Georgia and gained initial notability with several self-released titles, becoming regionally and nationally known.
McEwan was a drummer and producer based in Denmark, later becoming a member of the Danish production group Deekay who had written and produced songs for many popular artists.
Although this track was recorded in 2016 the video for this clip is based on the cult 80's movie 'The karate Kid' - despite the age difference, the two fit well together creating a retro classic.
As one commeter said : "I love how probably everyone who listens to this song and gets a little tickle of a memory or a butterfly feeling can relate to the words. I am a private person. But... I feel like this song was made for me. The Midnight are amazing. We all have "Tough/rough tears/years" it shapes who we are... the midnight makes me realise I have no regrets. Big love to anyone who is using music as therapy. It works x"
And as the song says "I've made mistakes and I've been hard hit, I say - So what ? So what if I did ?".
In the end though, we create our own reasons to live, but what is the point of living without someone to live for?

I turned my life around at 44 and started to attend college. Now at 49, I'm starting law school. My wife has been my rock, as she helped me find myself in this crazy world. This song is a testament for those who have the courage to chase their dream.

The Comeback Kid was my introduction to The Midnight. Went through a really rough time 3 years ago. I was lost and in a dark place, but listening to the Midnight helped me get through, then two years ago I met the love of my life and we went to see them live in Manchester in November last year, easily one of the best nights of my life.

Wow. I cried at the end of this. Such beauty. Everything about this video was PERFECTION. In a short 5 minutes you beautifully summed up a movie about an amazing relationship with a boy who didn't believe in himself and an elderly man who taught him how to believe in himself, and the winning shot at the end <3 PERFECT song for this tribute. Such purity.

Synthwave makes me feel nostalgic to a previous life I remember nothing about, a place in some parallel universe I never visited before, a person I loved but never met before.

I used to be a drug addict and every time I listen to this song I cry. I’m over 4 years clean now.

I saw The Midnight live in NYC March 2018, before they played this Tyler took a second to say something about the song: "This next song is about a friend who has had a rough time... maybe a rough week, a rough year... maybe even a rough life".

This song is so fucking good, seriously why are these guys not the most popular group in the world ever?.

0:45 is probably the most incredible shot in cinematography I've ever seen. I don't even think CGI can get that shot like it is. Golden.

I love The Midnight so so very much. I left my heart in the 80's. I need to go back to get it. Thankfully I was born in the 70's so I was a kid in the 80's. This is a great movie that I got to see in theaters. Thank you.

Best line: "I've made mistakes and I've been hard hit, I say, 'So What? What If I Did?". We all need to remind ourselves of this. Unless your mistake cost someone else their life, or caused serious, irreversible damage, a mistake has the potential to be undone, or the damage cannot be repaired. So many times, we really do have to "Start Over, Start Over Again" to move ahead.

I feel lucky to be born in the 80's; growing up as a kid in that era, it was certianly a time of nostalgia and magic for me.

So much nostalgia from a time I wasn’t alive

About 2 years ago, I overdosed in the ER and died for about 30 seconds. Everytime I hear this, it encourages me to keep going no matter what happens. If I came back without resuscitation, it must mean I'm here for a reason. At least, I really hope there's a reason for me to be here. In the end tho, we create our own reasons to live, whats living without someone to live for?

Mr Miyagi's smile at the end totally makes this video

I love this 80's feeling. Handwritten letters and a poem, my clumsy first kiss and her shy smile.
The world is changing too fast. Too fast, simple, easy, easy to meet and break up. Why did I do that? Where did it go wrong? I regret what happened, but I know it can't be undone. But I will always remember you and those days.

I found this song on the cusp of a pending divorce after a messy separation. It felt like my life was being torn in two and I was losing everything that I'd worked hard for after a youth filled with bad luck and worse choices. The song at the time reached me as a call for me to try harder to make things work with her, to make her see I could be that come back kid again. Things didn't work out, sometimes they aren't supposed to. Now, I listen to this song and realize no matter what you have to be the reason you come back, you have to be the reason to work hard and you should always be the person you need to impress and find fulfillment in. I'm still that comeback kid, just now I know what I'm actually coming back from and what I have to look forward to - health, independence and a brighter outlook on life after being beaten up and pushed down. I won't say this song saved my life, it didn't save my marriage, and it didn't save the household my kids would have grown up with - but it does help me reflect on all of the decisions that led me here and give me a much needed perspective on life in a way not many other things do. If you ever feel like you aren't going to make it through something hard, or feel like you've lost everything just know that you only lose when you give up. Everyone's got a comeback kid in them, you just have to work hard to see it. If it was easy the first time you wouldn't have failed, so don't expect it to be easy this time. Push through it, earn it, and come back.

"I've made mistakes and I've been hard hit I say so what so what if I did" truly inspiring.

This song has saved me from myself countless times, has brought me back from the brink of death and continues to play a pivotal role in my life. I’d say it’s the soundtrack to my chaotic life. I’m 37 years old, trying to beat 27 years of drug addiction - 17 of those years hardcore heroin and crack use - and slay the demons that lay beneath powering that addiction. So, The Midnight - I am so very grateful. I will never give up on me. ️To you my friend - that’s why I get up again

Beautiful song and beautiful cut video. I remember that movie. It is legendary. It was THE MOVIE when I was a kid. The one we all refered to and spoke about. I've said the line "Just like in Karate Kid" a million times over the years. So wonderful to reconnect to that movie. I think I'll watch it again!
