American singer and songwriter Kali Uchis was born Karly-Marina Loaiza in Alexandria, Virginia, on July 17, 1993, and is the daughter of a Colombian father and an American mother.

Kali Uchis is embracing bolero in her new single.

Today, the Colombian-American superstar premiered the melodramatic music video for “Te Mata,” the latest single off her upcoming album.

Kali is no stranger to embracing bolero influences.

In 2016, she released a cover of “Sabor A Mi” which was written by Mexican composer Álvaro CarrT

The opening song on her 2020 Spanish album Sin Miedo (Del Amor y Otros Demonios) was also a bolero called “La Luna Enamorada.”

Now, she is returning to the sound in her latest single, “Te Mata.”

She sings about proudly embracing the diabla role in a toxic relationship and using her “wings” to fly away from that situation. Kali sings her heart out in this bolero that’s to die for. 

When Uchis embarked on her first Spanish album, she didn’t have much support from those around her. Her label wasn’t a fan of the idea, and she alienated her non-Spanish-speaking fans in the process.

“They literally said, ‘You’re on your own,’”
