One of Macksville’s largest employers is facing an uncertain future, following changes to bus manufacturing guidelines.

Express Coaches has lost a quarter of its workforce and the company’s concerned it could lose more.

Starting from a small shed in the New South Wales town of Macksville in 1995, Express Coach Builders started with a small team of six employees who produced 20

Macksville coaches delivering for Australian defence force:

Defence Force personnel have been making use of the 10 coaches manufactured by Express Coach Builders in Macksville.

A $10 million contract to supply 21 new coaches to the Australian Defence Force has helped create jobs in Macksville.

Ten coaches manufactured by Express Coach Builders are now in active duty for the Australian Defence Force across Australia.

Express Coach Builders has partnered with Scania Australia to manufacture the 21 touring coaches. Scania Australia imports the chassis assemblies from Sweden and sub-contracts the coach body-building to Express Coach Builders.

To date, their coaches have been delivered to defence force bases in South Australia, Queensland, the ACT, NSW and Victoria.
