Dom Dolla 'Strangers'
‘Strangers’ become friends on Dom Dolla’s new collab with Mansionair. The new tune’s a godsend for anyone craving a good white girl dance in a laser-lit nightclub.

Dom Dolla was born Dominic Matheson in 1992. The Melbourne-based DJ signed on with the Sweat It Out label in 2015 and started to gain widespread acclaim for his singles, remixes, and live sets.

Front and centre of ‘Strangers’ is Mansionair lead singer Jack Froggatt’s angelic vocals, which swirl and build to create a cinematic atmosphere (seriously, someone put this song in the party scene of an indie dramedy).

Dom Dolla fortifies Froggatt’s delicate singing with his trademark driving baselines and soft climaxes, playing to both artist’s strengths in what is sure to be a Summer 2021 dancefloor filler.

It was love at first sight for both parties when Froggatt presented Dom Dolla with an early version of ‘Strangers’ in mid 2020.

“When we met we instantly clicked,” said Dom. “After writing a few ideas together they remembered an old vocal idea they had sitting on a hard drive they weren’t sure what to do with. As soon as I heard it I knew it had potential.”

“I could hear big sweeping strings in my head and a big, progressive bassline to follow the vocal hook. I took the acapella into the studio the following week, not long after I had a demo to play at shows.”

Although firmly at home on your next club night, Jack sneaks some introspection via ‘Strangers’ stretched lyrics.

“It’s a song about treading carefully with your words in the heat of a moment, and knowing your worth,” Jack said.

Dom Dolla has been on a hot streak in 2021, securing a Best Dance Release nomination for ‘Pump The Brakes ’ at this year’s ARIA awards. He also popped up on the absolutely stacked For The Love line-up this week, ahead of the festival rolling around the country next year.

Mansionair fans have been geared up for a new album from the trio following a handful of singles, including the anthemic ‘MORE’ and a feature on German DJ Claptone’s 2021 album Closer.

The band have also been sharing live versions of new music on their IG.
